Bast mod to improve mileage?

I have a bone stock 05'. My truck is a daily driver, towing is minimal. I would like to increase my mileage, not concerned so much with additional power. I called Banks today and they suggested their Bullet and or Ram air intake system. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

They misled you.
A better air filter might help a little.
Timing will help.
Calll the venders for a simple add on box to do this.

how did they mislead him? they recommended an intake which has a better filter (which you recommended as well), and they recommended a mild 3 position adjust-on-the-fly pressure only tuner, which gives many people slightly better mileage (and will also give him full gauges as a bonus).
are they worthwhile mods? yes
are they worth the expense, just for the fuel savings? no, but there aren't really any mods out there that are worthwhile just for the fuel savings, other than a right foot adjustment. JMO

A brick, a brick to place under your accelerator pedal.

Slow down, take off slow, don't go over 58 on the highway. Best gains you are going to see are from driving habits.

PJ has it right.

The best mileage increase comes from slowing down and accelerating slowly. And it's free!

The next thing is reasonable sized tires (tall and skinny radials with high pressure)

Forget the air filter! As far as engine mods are concerned, timing is your best hope.

so for all our modern 21st century technology, a brick is the answer! (and probably the best one mentioned so far).

There's nothing wrong with going for the best milesge you can in the vehicle you have and intend to use. The one you must use or just want to use. Mileage is always important. Even if you don't care about the cost, the added range is nice.

timing really helps the 04.5 up i use a smarty jr with 04.5up software and a pdr cam to get the best mpg a cfm+ and grid heater delete is worth the cost along with a 5"fbd turbo back and donoldson m 090535 muffler do not do anything to the intake side of your turbo it will only make it worse. since you are using it for dailey driver add a 1500 series tailgate spoiler and a lund tonneau cover from jc whitney

The $300. - $500. or more mods etc. for mileage will never pay for themselves. I posted a less than $20.00 muffler delete mod. and check the advance timing mod for $0.00, and I will be posting a filter mod in the near future for less than $25.00 - the cost of the K&N filter, keep your tires full, drive with an egg under your foot, watch ahead for stop lights, etc. these are your pay off type mods that will do you the most good and save you the most money.
