This probably doesnt apply to you but I had a "tech" in CO (I was getting an oil change far from home) show me that my ball joints were bad at 45k miles. Drove it to CA and had a dealer look at it. They said they were good. That was 20k miles ago and still no problems.
I had a flat repaired recently and had them rotate my tires while it was on the lift. (at a local reputable tire and repair shop that I do a lot of business with all the time).
Same thing they said my ball joints have considerbale play in them at 28K, on a COMPLETELY stock truck.
They advised me to keep driving it to the very end of the warranty and take it in.
Said they would put it back on the hoist and show me where the play was so they wouldn't B.S me at the dealership.
That is ridiculous!
I put 100K on the Moog Replacements in my second Gen and they are still good.

My stock ball joints went out at 66k and I have a leveling kit and 35's, also plowed 3 storms with the truck last year. Buddy of mine has an '05 with 20k and had to replace his ball joints already and his truck is all stock. I went with the MOOG replacements and haven't looked back yet. It is nice to have more than 2 grease fittings under there.

I think I read somewhere that the stock ball joints on the late model trucks have a lot of slop in them from new. Maybe these shops are just used to tighter joints and are mistaking ball joints that are within spec as far as lash as bad??
My '06 has 26K on it and the driver's side is already developing play. So based on this and all the other threads I have read, yes it seems to be normal. Vehicles that drain your wallet seem to be the norm these days.

Thats what I wonder about. The shop in CO that wanted to sell me new ball joints didnt really seem like a rip off joint and 20k miles later the truck still isnt pulling or having abnormal tire wear.
It's the stock joints. I had my 05 truck realligned when the bigger diameter tires were installed. (285/17). They said, looks loose. Dodge dealer said the same and did the warranty repair. Took it back and guess what? Same with new joints. Loose, but not bad. They really did change the joints. I watched the process. But as the dealer did not have an allignment rack, we went back to my fave place for that.
New M55 Toyo's in the spring (when the new 285's come out)... then Moog, with Camber correction. My right front needs that as it's on the edge of spec.
