Ball Joint help....

I have an 03 with 87,000 miles and all 4 of my ball joints are gone. It seams really early for them to go bad. I know this has been a problem on these trucks. Has anyone gotten the dealer to replace them for free. They should last longer than what they have and I don't feel I should be paying for it. Any info you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

What is it doing to indicate they are gone?

87K? Count yourself lucky! If you bought the truck used, just assume that's the second or third set.

Death wobble, can not maintain alignment, shuttering on deceleration are just a few of the things it is doing. I had the dealer check the ball joints last time I had it in. They told me all 4 were bad and how much it was going to cost. They were not interested in replaceing them on there dime.

When I put new tires on, the alignment shop said all 4 are gone, 48,000 miles. Covered under extended warranty. Dealer said they are OK. I have no signs of bad joints. No wander, wear, noise, or wobble. Not sure what to do.

Did Firestone or NTB tell you they were bad? You have to jack up the truck. Then out a bar under the tire and lift the tire and look for up and down movement

I noticed that everyone who responded to this post has a 4X4 except airmac who doesn't a signature. Is this ball joint problem only on 4X4s? I have 66K on my 2wd with no problem at all. I bought it new, so know it's the original set. Also original brakes all the way around.

Yes I checked for up and down movement, very little, maybe 1/8 inch. Dealer said that is normal and OK. I have no symptoms of bad ball joints.

Same here I have 1/8 of play and NTB told me they should be replaced. My truck goes to the dealer for U-joints on Monday. So They will check them for me

Big Dave, I took mine to the ******* and they charged me $85 diagnostic fee. Then told me they were " all like that". Alignment shop says there should be no movement, Dodge says otherwize. Alignment shop makes money replacing them and Dealer doesn't want to do it for free. I am in the middle.
