Bad day at the dealer

Into the dealer for a clutch replacement, it turns out the clutch is worn but still good.

Bad news is the G56 is shot, main shaft is toast. The cost is going to be around $4,500.00 with a few other things getting done along with it. First major thing to happen at 520,756 miles.

Wow! At half a million miles, it deserves to be pampered a little. Considering what any other truck out there would be like with that kind of mileage, yours is doing good.

For everyday driving I guess the g56 is alright but if I were working the truck or pulling I'd rather have the 5600.....iron case...much stronger in my opinion.

just my .02

With that kinda miles they should do it for free and give your truck its own commercial.

Sorry for the big bucks but the miles are impressive. How often did you change your fluid? Reason I ask is a guy in AZ told me he had over 300K on his and had only changed his fluid once.

I change the fluid in all gear boxs every spring. When the new G56 goes in all the gear boxs will get new oils.

So you change the fluid avg every 100k miles?
That's great news for me! I got about 60k mi on it since my last change and I was going to do it this spring. Guess I can wait until next year!
At that rate, my G56 will last another 14 years!

I would take it to a tranny shop with creds. Should be able to get it fixed for half that. I've broken mine a time or three and never paid more than 2k.
