Atf In Fuel Tank?
Atf In Fuel Tank?
I SAW A GUY IN THE RV PARK PUT 1 QUART OF ATF IN HIS FUEL TANK. HE SAID IT CLEANS HIS INJECTORS AND LUBES THE PUMP IS THIS TRUE? IS HE DOING DAMAGE TO HIS DODGE 3500 ?
THANKS
THANKS
Lots of people have different opinions about all the stuff they put in.
Some put 2 stroke oil too and some just plain ole oil.
I maybe lacking reality but have heard a lot, they lube the pump and keep the injectors running.
I honestly only run diesel conditioner etc once every tanks fulls. I am happy so far
A logical answer will be nice here

I have heard the ATF is a very bad thing because it will leave deposits, not clean anything. ATF is not meant to burn. I use 2 stroke oil every other tankfull (or when I remember
) because it does lube and is also meant to burn and it is ashless.

So whats better to add, some conditioner or 2 stroke oil ? and how much 2 stroke oil do you add
ATF has too many detergents and it is bad for our trucks. Optilube XPD seems to be the best thing out there if you can find it. Power Service and Howes are good too. All can be found at trucks stops and sometimes Walmarts.....
ATF isn't good for the fuel system because it contains friction modifiers that are beneficial to an automatic transmission but detrimental to a fuel system. ATF will actually cause wear on your fuel system. Not to mention, putting a red oil into your diesel fuel tank would easily give the police, or whoever dips tanks, a very good reason to believe your running off road fuel in your on road truck. I would run Power Service (which I use), or any other good diesel fuel conditioner.

In addition to the points made by 92'1stGen, Using of ATF as a fuel supplement to common-rail fuel systems may cause premature component wear and compromise the integrity of the fuel system. I would also caution that ATF can leave ash deposits behind.
I have an 82 vw diesel pickup and in the hastings repair manual it says that atf cleans and lubes injectors and pump, say you can run it on only atf if you can afford it, but that motor is before the pc started running vehicles

It will still be ok in the older diesels but todays diesels will not handle it so well.
I have a friend that runs 50/50 diesel and ATF during the summer months, not winter. He does it because we works for a trans shop and gets lots of it for free but it does hurt his power but doesn't hurt the his engine
Can you ask him how he filters out some of the more "unwanted" elements in the ATF. I would have loved to find an older Cummings just for this reason. And have a friend with a trans shop as well.
Well he uses the ATF that they test the trans with so there isn't much "unwanted" elements in the ATF fluid he uses but then he also runs the Air Dog fuel pump which has a 2 micron filter on it. He does clog it from time to time but nothing bad gets past it and he has no prob pumping it.
