Atf +4
Atf +4
Been looking for atf+4 for my G56 tranny and all I could find is this Mobil Super Atf+4,http://www.imperialoil.ca/Canada-Eng...uper_ATF_4.pdf. I can get the Mopar atf+4 from the dealer, would this oil be a good choice even though its a syn blend or should I return it and get the Mopar stuff or something else?
aow about the valvoline ? http://www.valvoline.com/pages/produ...asp?product=63

Mopar ATF is not 100% synthetic being its made from Group III crude oil and not Group IV base stock. A quote from Allpar: The paper noted that one alternative was to use synthetic Group IV base stock, which are even more expensive than the ATF+4 solution, which provided Group IV style performance from Group III stock. So what they did to keep the cost low was to use group III base stock then add an additive from Lubrizol so that it would hold up for 100K.
Some info about oil base stock:
Group I base oils can have a mix of different hydrocarbon chains, with relatively little uniformity; these oils are the least refined. They are usually not used for autos.
Group II are the most common base oils in “dino juice,” with good performance in most areas except cold temperature viscosity.
Group III are called synthetic, and have high molecular uniformity and stability. Group III oil bases are used in most synthetic oils.
Group IV are chemically engineered stocks, arguably with the highest performance and longevity.

I have never seen Mopar ATF+4 at Walmart in Canada ( I assume that is where the originator of this post is from as he refered to Esso.ca) I have brought back Mopar ATF+4 from the States that I bought at Walmart because even with the exchange rate it was cheaper than I could get it at a dealer here in Canada.

imho there is nothing wrong with group III base stock its just not a true "man Made" synthetic...it is highly refined dewaxd oil. rotella synthetic 5w-40 is also group III many use it. Price is also a cosideration....i know here in ny a real synthetic motor oil like royal purple or amsoil is approaching the $7.00 a quart price...id rather pay less for a group III,thats just me, if lived in extreme hot/cold, i would spend the extra $$$ on group IV
Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...
