Anyone solve the drippy coolant connection on the 06's?

Mine did it the first month of ownership (Summer 06), it's doing it again. They put on a rubber hose with 2 worm gear clamps...Looks pretty lame, I thought they replaced the clamp that was causing the leak. Anyways, has anyone had this as a repeat problem? Did the dealer have a better fix? It's still under warranty and I need to have the Blend door and multi-switch replaced, but I'd like to go in with a better idea if one is available.

P.S. Is it possible to build up excessive coolant pressure with mods? I have the Quad S, but keep it on 2 and very rarely do I ever floor it or even give it heavy gas for any length of time.

i Have never experinced this problem so i am not 100% sure of what you are talking about. However, on the DTR WIKI there is a articl that Thuren made about fixing a coolent leaking problem that he had. You might want to check it out.

I noticed yesterday that mine was leakink @ that cheesy piece they put in-line. I tighten the clamps, they were both loose, and it stopped leaking.

Mine did it, I just rotated the clamp a little and re-tightened. Never did it again.

The replacement hose is silcone instead of a standard rubber heater hose. Replaced mine and so far no leaks.

I just snugged my clamps up and it's been fine ever since......
if it does it again I will put some heavy duty clamps instead of the cheesy worm drive clamps.

Mine did it too. Seems like when we go to cooler temps this is when it starts dripping. I just tightened the clamps, ended the problem.

I understand that the dealerships will replace this little piece of hose with a new silicone hose and better clamps.

Hey Pauly.

It's the short little hose in/above the turbo, heater core connector hose or something like that. You can see it in behind the turbo from the top of the RH fender. I think they put the hose in to dampen vibrations so the metal pipe would not have problems??? Looks like they just created another problem but at least they are replacing it wil a better quality silicone hose.

Dealer installed new heat shielded hose and clamps which fixed it. Tightening the old clamps didn't last.

The new hose set up probably won't last either.

I tried tightening the clamps on mine too, worked for about a week then started leaking again. The problem is the hose is too big and when the cold weather shrinks the diameter of the metal pipe it causes the hose to get loose. When I changed mine the old hose wasnt even a little bit snug on the pipe, but the new hose is smaller as well as being a better quality. I hope it lasts longer than the first one did.

drippy coolant

It looks like there are several threads about this same issue, especially in 2006's. It seems to beg a couple questions like:

1) What is under the sleeve? Why's it there in the first place?

2) Is the replacement of that hose covered under either the 100k Cummins warranty or the 3/36 original warranty?

3) How many owners have to have this same problem before it's recognized as a factory defect?

Newbie to Dodges and diesel here, so lash away if my questions are stupid.

I've found the same problem on mine. I cranked down the hose clamps as much as possible. I'll loosen, rotate, and re-tighten them when I get a chance to see if that will fix it.

Don't get me wrong, I love my truck, just am a little disappointed at the puddle of coolant under my rig when I'm only in my 3rd month of owning it.

Thanks.

Dave
