Anyone getting good mileage with an 06?

Reason I'm asking is I've just ordered a 06 to replace my 05. 05 was in an accident and I've always wanted a long bed... 0% financing put me over the edge. I'll actually have lower payments with a newer truck

I'm getting worried hearing all these complaints about bad mileage. Is this the same thing as the complaints about the 04.5 and 05's when they first came out? People trading in older Dodges on new ones and getting the double whammy of more power and a new, unbroken in engine getting bad mileage or is there something about the 06's that's different from the 04.5 and 05?

Just want to make sure I'm not making a mistake getting rid of a 05 NV5600 for a 06 G56. My 05 got 16mpg combined new and 19 now that it has 12k on it.

I have 2006 with 2500 miles on it, really hoping mileage will
get substantially better, averaging 11mpg around town.
and 15 on the highway..

I have an 06 and I got 17.63 mpg driving it on a 750 mile trip.. Had 350 miles on it when I started out. I varied the speed, 65mph for 30 min., 70 mph for 30 min. 75 for 10 min(speeding), and so on. I went thru Tenn. with a lot of hills. Mine is an 06, 6spd, long bed 4X4, QC, 3.73 axle. I get 15/16 in town. This is so far , I expect it to improve some with more mileage on engine. Terry.

my 06 now has 3300 miles and it picks up 17.5-18.8 running 73-75 down the highway. City driving is around 15-16, varies with my right foot from stoplights.

Only 900 miles on mine. Just topped it off today from in town driving and 65mph on the loop going around town a couple of times. I am happy with the results with this few miles on the truck.

120.6 miles on the odometer, 6.74 gals to top off = 17.89 mpg.

There are no significant changes in engine or drive train from 05 to 06. Mostly interior and cosmetic changes.

I doubt the 06 G56 will match the 05 NV5600 for mileage. Your are losing gear and raising rpm's. Unless you can stand to drive it 50 to 55 mpg you won't see 19 very often. Some are reporting 19 to 20 mpg but only at 55 mph or less. The auto's will out mileage by about 2 mpg on a consistent basis.

Cargun:

I've got an 06 Megacab, live in Nv. and took a quick Sun. trip.(last Sun.) I had 1600 mi. when I started. Went 372 mi. and the tank took 20 gal. exactly, which equals 18.6 mi./gal. I was driving at the start about 65 mi./hr. but most of the trip speed was at 75- 80 mi./hr. I'm hoping for at least a 19-20 mi./gal. when the truck is broke in. The truck was unloaded during this drive. Also, I ran the truck accross the a Cat Scale and with me aboard with a full tank it weighs 7760 Lbs. Hope this helps!

I have an 06 4x4 with the 6sp and 373's, I thinking that going to a 285 tire might raise the gearing enough to get 1800 on the tach like my 05 auto did.The g56 with 373's seems low geared in sixth gear.Is anybody running 285's or 35's on an 06 6spd yet? Hows the power, mpg?

It's great to hear from everyone that's happy with their 06's! Thanks for all the replies.

I plan on putting on 285's once I wear the factory rubber down some.

I have an '06 2wd quadcab shortbed 2500, with the g56. Unfortunately, I don't have a hand calculation because I haven't driven the truck by myself enough. My overhead consistently shows 17.8-18.1 mph in all city driving. It shows around 18.6 on the highway at a constant 65 mph. I suspect mine gets better mileage in town than an auto would (due to the too-loose stock converter) and a little worse on the highway, since it revs a good bit higher. I'm completely satisfied with the mileage so far. It has 2100 miles on it, and has been getting approximately these figures on the overhead since it was brand new with 30 miles on it.

2100 mi. on her and forth fillup. post all fueling on Gasbuddy.com. total over all avg. = 17.248 mpg. Fill to click off and round up to nearest $. Combination of 60% city and 40% highway. Hope it gets better when broken in. Also some of the highway miles were in the Mountains, maby 25% of the 40%.
Time will tell.
One thing about it, I can't seem to drive it enough to satisfy me.
Also every now and then maby I get my foot in it a little to much.
Don't order the snowplow prep pkg. you don't get the 160amp alternater with the diesel.

Thumbs down

I have an 06 (see sig) that only has 875 miles on it, so far i haven't seen 13mph yet. Usually in the 12's and drops to the 10's with trailer . Sure hope it gets better as i got rid of my ford to get one, partially due to everybody bragging about mileage. That and my ford was a POS. Time will tell i guess, 13 ain't gonna cut it though.
