Any Tips Before Pulling Hub???
Looking for last minute tips before pulling the (RF) hub. Been all over DTR researching this very topic & wondering if there are any additional tricks/procedures which might improve my chances of NOT seperating the bearings? Noticed the hub puller destructions say, "SPECIAL CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO AVOID SEPERATING THE BEARINGS" but of course there's no mention of what's meant by SPECIAL CARE!? (Incidentally, the hub's been soaked w/a 1/2 can of PB-Blaster for 2 days & I've been all over the assembly with an air hammer... already tried both the power steering trick & a 2-Ton jack between the frame & hub bolts!) Is it just a matter of luck if the bearings don't seperate?
the hub is an entire assembly. fairly easy to remove. i have had a few that wouldn't come off very easy without heating the assembly with a torch first. so if you take the three bolts out of the back, heat around the assembly, and smack it a couple of times around the side with a hammer it should come right off.
Snap On DHPI is the tool that replaces using a "socket" for pressing the bearing out utilizing the power steering method. For "stuck" bearings what I've found works is to have a helper hold pressure on the power steering (engine running.....slightly "bouncing" the steering wheel) and I'll then "hit" the bearing flange/spindle area with my air hammer. Often you'll have to move the tool from side to side, but they will pop out.
