Antifreeze leak

I am taking the truck in again tomorrow for a small leak. It is at the top of the radiator and it is pooling in the slots on the air filter. This is the second time in for the problem. Last time they changed the radiator cap. It is only a small amount leaking out but I am worried it might be a sign of something bigger (over heating while pulling 5th wheel). Is this normal or should I be worried? While it is in I am having them check for hard starting and mass amounts of black smoke if I step on it too hard (no mods). Thanks.

Long starts can be cause from the injectors may have a crack or are leaking by.

When your water pump starts failing it will spray coolant on the side of the stock air box. If you truck is stock and it is blowing alot of black smoke, you probably have a boost leak. Is your oil level rising between changes? This is a good indicator of a leaking injector.

I had the same anti freeze problem... go get a cheepo hose clamp and put it tightly on the overflow tube where it comes out of the rad under the cap.

Start with the cheep stuff first...

Agreed! 90% chance it is that darn little overflow hose coming from just below the radiator cap.. They just push it on there, needs a clamp at BOTH ENDS. Put a second clamp on it at the Overflow bottle itself...

Mine leaked there too, ended up putting on a ziptie and leak no more at the hose.

Mine too, just havent done anything about it yet. But when my pump started going out it was making a weird noise and it sprayed antifreeze everywhere! 60 dollar pump, 15 mins, and a gallon of antifreeze on the ground and its fixed. LOL

Thanks for the advice. I will let them look at it under warranty. If they come back with nothing I will tell them to add the clamp. That is what I figured because it is not a lot leaking. I just was afraid all the issues could be related. Nothing else they will have to hook it up to the diagnostic, might find something else. Thanks.

x3 or whatever the number is on the overflow hose. I ended up putting screw clamps on the overflow hose, and the upper and lower radiator hoses within a month of owning mine because of the same issue. Hasn't leaked since...

This might be the fix for the hard starting.
