Another Overboost thread/ cheap parts?
Hello All. I am not new to the diesel community, but I am new to the electronical diesel era. I am looking for some confirmation on my suspicions of an over-boost code. I have read over a dozen forum threads on this topic which has helped me troubleshoot.
I am getting a logged over-boost code. I bought the truck with a CEL knowing it drove just fine and I do not need to pass emissions here. I replaced the wastegate solenoid, which was dead. The CEL did not come back after clearing it once that part was replaced. I used a Centech scan tool to monitor my boost after replacing this. Unfortunately I did not find out the tool will not read over 37psi (including atmospheric) until after I replaced the Boost Pressure Sensor, so I do not know if that needed to be changed or not. So now I have a new WG solenoid, new boost sensor, and a logged overboost code. The truck will pull hard at WOT each drive cycle and then cut fuel due to overboost. It will sometimes remain with cut fuel rates, and other times it won't. Sometimes it will even cut fuel 3 times in a row within 5 seconds, greatly confusing my transmission. The next thing I did was replace the Boost Reference Hose, which had no impact on the situation.
Is this just a stuck wastegate? Or do my cheapO amazon parts that were less than $40 a piece just suck at functioning? The WG solenoid is such a simple device that I can't see paying Cummins $730 for one, but I would be willing to get the Mopar MAP, I think that's around $170. My original one broke the **** off upon removal.
Thanks for the advice -- Zach S.
