another injector question

Well I just got back from the dealer today because my 05 was vibrating a lot at idle. I have had no loss of power and no smoke. The truck is stock...

They did the injector test and #2 injector came back at 93%. They want to replace the injector at about $800 parts and labor. I did call around and my local cummins dealer can do it for about $750. It is the injector that cost over $500 for even a rebuilt one.......

I have changed the fuel filter and have always used the filters from the cummins dealer. This did not improve the idle vibration.

Is there anything else I can try to clean up the injector? Should I put some injector cleaner in? What would be the best brand? Just bite the bullet and replace the injector?

Any feedback appreciated!

Thanks

Tim

You could try a hard tow (as heavy as you can and at least an hour) that may clean it up. Don't use additives myself so can't recommend any.

If you can afford to have your truck
down for a little while ,I would pull
injectors and send to F1, Don will
check them out and tell you what needs
to be done. Dealers sell a 10 micron filter.
You will need a better filter then that.

Does your truck have the g56? Mine was doing the same thing at idle, but going down the highway it ran smooth. Ended up being the dual mass flywheel was shot. Might be something to check before you pull the injectors.

It does have the G56 so it could be the dual mass flywheel.... That is pretty much what my truck does. No loss of power, and drives fine down the road, just vibrates a lot at idle. I have pulled about 4 yards of gravel in one of my trailers and it pulls with no problem. Do you know of anyway to check the clutch without pulling the trasmission out (actually putting in a new clutch)? My clutch does not slip at all and shifts great... I do have a noisy throw out bearing though.
The dealer did not think this was the problem, but I have read enough to think that is a possiblity.

I did buy some power service today and thought I would run that through a couple of fuel to see if that helps...

Thank for the suggestions, keep em coming if there are other ideas!

I had a fairly bad vibration, ended up being the Dual Mass. I replaced with a used one my mechanic had floating around, and life's good for a while now.

Update:

It was the Dual Mass flywheel causing the vibration. I also might have caused my rear main seal to leak.... Just installed a Valair clutch kit and it is like driving a new truck! The old flywheel had broken springs and you could move the top plate back and forth.. It was gone, but my clutch was still good, pretty crazy huh?!

It is like having a new truck... :^)

Glad you found your problem, but I would recommend getting a new dealer.

I have had the clutch kit replaced when my through bearing went out about a year ago and since then I have had a vibration that comes and goes sometimes when I am in first or second starting off and starting off in reverse sometimes. Could the duel mass be the problem?

I have the NV5600.

It is the only dealer in town, but I will not be going back.... We have a Cummins dealer in town and they actually did the clutch work. I will be visiting them when needed... :^)
