another fuel filter question!

I have done a search and haven't found what I'm looking for. I saw in a previous post that the 7 micron filter was for 2006 and above. As shown on my sig. I have a 2004 and was about to change my filter with a 7 micron and thought if that post is true then I may need to reconsider and go with a 10 micron. What should I do? I don't want to kill the lift pump!

The 7-micron is for the new ULSD fuel. You will want to get the 7-micron

Thanks! I appreciate the help. What does USLD have in it we have to protect from? I know what it doesn't have more of, just wondering!

It's not what the ULSD has in it, it's what it does to the fuel system. The ULSD breaks down all the deposits and trash that are in the tank/lines, and clog up the filter. If the filter catches it. (ergo, the 7 micron)

DC changed to a 7 micron filter because of injector issues.Bosch wanted Cummins to go with a 5 micron instead of the 10 but DC got them to settle for a 7.It has nothing to do with ulsd.

If Cummins wanted to go with a 5 micron, why didn't the filters switch for all the CRD diesels Cummins manufacturers? From what I know, the filters haven't changed for the medium duty applications, etc.

Sorry jkitterman, i worded that wrong,(see edit above).Bosch wanted more filtration because of injector failures.Using better filtration has nothing to do with usld, its no different than low sulpher diesel other than sulpher content(doesnt clean tank, fuel lines etc,if this were the case 10 microns would be sufficient in new trucks because there would be nothing in the lines to clean)That being said, there are current issues with fuel contaminates causing injector failures.GM more than DODGE thank God The only filtration problem i could see by ulsd is service stations running tanks low to meet government requirements for sulpher content.
