Amount of time to flash a 600

For those who have had their 2004.5 600’s re-flashed per the service bulletin. Isn’t this a fast procedure? Would this take a technician less then an hour to do? I’m planning to wait while they do it rather than a drop off.

Under 1 hr, as long as they have new programing in their hand heald already, ask them to turn your forced high idle at the same time.

Jack.

If I tell a customer "no problem, only takes a couple of minutes" the computer will crash and it will take an hour and a half to make it work. If the truck is dropped off and I have all day to do it it takes about 15-20 minutes tops. After the flash the tech should be able to "enable" the cold weather idle feature.

Hey JBody, ain't that the truth!

You forgot to mention what happens if they want it done later in the afternoon on any Friday.

Then it always takes 10 times longer than it should!

LOL!

I'd just prefer to drive up in a service bay and do the adjustments myself.

Maybe a little off the subject but related nonetheless...

How do I know if my truck needs the flash or not? I did the vin search thing on Dodge's website, but it said no recalls or service bulletins were needed for my truck. My truck doesn't exibit the smoke or dead spots/stumbling that I've heard this flash is for, but it does suffer from the now notorious pitiful fuel mileage and 70mph vibration/drone. As far as the engine sound goes, I dunno, this is my first diesel so I don't know if mine sounds "normal" or not. Where do I go to get a list of the TSBs?? Thanks!

Someone will post the TSB, I printed it out. "600" engines built before I believe 2/2/04 are eligible. FWIW, my early build shows NONE of the symptoms, so I'm not going to have the reflash until it ever would. Probably be a newer flash by then anyway.

The best way to know if there is any updates available is to get the current part number from the ecm and load it into the mds at the dealership and see if there are updates.

Thanks guys... When I take it in for the 70mph vibration I will have them check it. The engine has a 12/03 date and the truck was born 01/04 (can't remember the exact day for each date) so I guess it is considered an "early" 600...
