Alternator Rebuild or Replace?

I replaced my belt a installed a new tensioner pulley a few weeks back.
The last few days, I've been getting a chirp at shut down, sometime pretty dang loud.
Today no chirp, but this afternoon there's a real good growl coming from the same side of the compartment as the alt and tensioner.

My question is, have anyone here rebuilt their alt using the kit from Geno's, and if so how hard was it?

I'm working on the road right now, and have access to the Auto Skills center at Ft. Rucker, but it may be easier to order a new on from Advanced Auto. IT comes with a lifetime warranty.

Thanks for any help.

Depending on the brand you have you might not have many choices. The Denso fried in my 08, rebuild parts were not available so I had to buy a new one and I kept the core so it can be rebuilt when parts are available.

06's for sure have the clutched pulley. Remove the belt and see if the clutch is bad or the front bearing.

Geno's has the front and rear bearings w/ new brushes for what the dealer charges for the core.

Please note that even though some parts stores list that alternator, they DO NOT carry it.

I'm not sure Geno's would make it here before it dumped.
I've read it was post 06 that they started using the clutch pulley. The new mfg part may com that way. The reman one available does for sure, but would nt be here until Tuesday at the earliest.

K-RAP!!!!!!!!
Picked up the new alt.
Pulled the belt and checked the original as well as the replaced tensioner pulley.

Both looked and felt fine....

So I crawled underneath again, and it looks as if it's the dang AC compressor!

I forgot I had to have the system charged and at that time they said I may have a small leak in the evaporator under the dash...

I put it back together, started it up and could get no cold air nor did it look as if the AC clutch was engaging.

This ought to be a fun fix now!!!!
