What exactly do you mean by "starts hard"? If it's slow to turnover and get moving, it could be a simple battery problem.

Any codes?

I think I know what you mean. I have an 06 as well and it is doing the same thing you described. Just as of this winter in the mornings it will just turn over with out starting. It turns over fast and just acts like its not getting fuel. In the last couple of days I figured out that if I wait for the light to go out and then give it about 5-10 extra seconds it will start perfect. Is it possible that the grid heater is taking longer than the light is telling me. Any info would be appreciated.

How's about you fill us in on the rest of the facts? Temp, plugged in, oil weight, slow crank, auto, 4X4, etc.

Joshworthy21 has described my symptoms perfectly, thankyou. Tomorrow I will try the extra wait before I try starting. Outdoor temp was about 40 degrees F when I tried starting, low overnight was 30. I do not have a block heater to my knowledge.

2006 4X4 quad cab short bed, everything stock. I am not a techy, changing fuel filter is the most I am capable of.

IIRC all engines came with a block heater, some did come without the cord attached buy you can fix that and buy one from Cummins for $20.00
