So here's the deal, I have a the 98 12v in my sig and it crapped 5th gear. (I don't think it's the nut as it still powers.) Instead there is a nasty thump that only happens in 5th gear and stops when I de-clutch. I have been running back and forth in 4th gear fo a week now.

I don't have the facitites to remove and replace the transmission myself and I am getting verbal quotes over the phone in the 4k range to R&R the trans and put in a new clutch.

The paint is shot and it's starting to rust. I am thinking I should sell it on the open market AS IS for what I can get and just get another truck.

pull trans and tear it apart, maybe bad fifth gear only. if cost is too much get a trans from auto wrecking yard. Should be much cheaper if you want to go that route. If you need info on R&R PM for procedures and tear down pictures.

 

Trans is making a funny noise in reverse as well. Do they share a shaft?
