P1693....need advice quickly

I have a 2000 2500 with over 415,000 k's and have a dead pedal. I am getting the above code. I am in a semi remote area and this is my only vehicle. Is there any way to get this unit running or am I going to require a tow to town? I have tried the battery disconnect (in the past with success) but is not helping this time. If I need to acquire a set of gauges or a code reader does anyone know of something available at a Canadian Tire or NAPA store? Need to be able to get to work next week!! Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

Sorry, maybe I just need to ask "what type of gauges or code reader do I need to do a proper diagnosis and does anyone know if I can get these tools at CDN Tire or NAPA"?

thanks again

P1693 is the companion code...it means that there may be another code stored and you need to use a OBDII scanner to extract it.

Thanks Onemoparnut. Guess I'll see if I can find one in town and get this rig moving again.

Thanks johnh.
I went out and got myself a scanner and if anyone can tell me what I'm up against now it would be most useful. I get 4 codes and all of them start out with "TPS Pedal Positioner Sensor". The first reads code P0123 A circuit high input. #2 reads P0121 A CKT range/perf. #3 reads P0123 (again) A CKT high input. #4 reads P0121 (again) A CKT range/perf. If I had to guess I would say it looks like I need a new APPS like johnh suggests. If so are there any good aftermarket ones out there or do I need to go to a dealer?

You can try the APPS reprogramming procedure to see if it helps before purchasing a new one. It helps some people, so since it is free...what the hey

Disconnect both negative cables on the batteries and let the truck sit 30 mins allowing the system to discharge (leaving a light left on won't hurt)

Then reconnect batteries (make sure the light is back off) and turn the key to the On position (but don't start engine) then back to the Off position. Do this 3 times leaving it in the on position on the 3rd time.....

Then press down on the throttle slowly all the way to the floor, then let it all the way back up slowly. Turn off the key and the Apps is now reset.

Good Luck!

Thanks Larry. I'll give it another try since I'm sure I wont be able to get my hands on a new part before I have to leave next week anyway. I have tried a version of this but not exactly as you have it laid out here. Here's hoping!

Hey Larry. Tried your method and had no luck. Guess I'll be buying a new apps. I tried a few shops up here and was told by one shop that the APPS are vehicle specific and would have to take the truck in to match it up (part would still need to be ordered) and another shop told me these are only available through Chrysler!!

If your in a bind you could try the apps voltage recalibration method.

OK, what do you mean by companion code?

I have a P 1963 and a P 1968 in my truck but it runs fine???
