Additives: Makes ya wonder!
have any of you guys had your oil tested after adding 2 stroke to your fuel? I was all for adding 2 stroke and poored in one of those small blue bottles from walmart at every fill up and did notice it seemed to run quieter but also saw the inside of my motor with the head off when my motor dropped a valve(unrelated issue) and saw how much carbon had built up in just 18k miles. also found out that when running 2 stroke your engine oil soot level goes through the roof to the point where your oil just cant hold anymore soot. stop running the 2 stroke and the soot level drops right back down to normal levels... now I add nothing to my fuel
Good point supersonitcoys!!! I always get UOA's and soot has never been a problem. But I didn't run the 2 stroke.. ONCE I had a 'Trace" of fuel but Blackstone said a trace is less than .05 % not an issue.
I had some Injector clatter for a while now. Nothing I thought was a major problem and LOTS have reported the same here. I found an additive I thought did the best and quieted them down the most. This past weekend I drove a 700 mile round trip in the truck and did NOT use any additive what so ever. Just Fresh #2. My clatter went completely away. Next weekend I am going to tow the trailer which usually makes the clatter louder but going to see if she stays quiet. Wonder if we really do need an additive afterall?
Can you describe this sound and when it occurs?
2 different CTDs and 3 different highly rated additives and I get a solid 1/2 mpg increase with any of them so I guess my trucks like the stuff and with the price of fuel the additive pays for itself. Plus the Cummins mechanics and fuel shops I've talked to say they've seen longer life out of both pumps with it. Craig
My noise is a clatter. Most pronounced when towing and getting up to speed such as on an on ramp, or in a head wind. Once you get up to speed and SLIGHTLY let off the throttle it goes away for the most part. If you have to get back into it, comes back. It will pretty much go away as soon as I build boost. No performance loss, MPG loss, power loss etc. Just the noise. It will do it while empty but is magnafied while loaded. But since I quit running the Additives, it is MUCH BETTER. Not 100% gone, but really un noticable if your not "Listening" for it. Hope that helps. Quite a few others have reported the same noise and describe it as sometning like Spark Knock in a gasser.
