AC condenser , UPDATED???
I went to the dodge parts dealer, and checked, there is an updated part # for the '06 and probably other years. I looked at it, it has wide short (flat) coils, as opposed to the round coils that came in my truck. I feel the flat coils will be more efficient, so I replaced it. I will report after the hot arizona summer comes on.
A/C Condenser
The condenser on your truck was installed at the factory as part of a total cooling package--condenser, oil coolers, intercooler, and radiator with fan shroud. The change from the round tube condenser ( referred to as piccolo type design) to the flat tube condenser( parallel flow) was done for replacement as the fins on the round tube condenser can be damaged and are unable to be straightened to allow proper airflow through the coil. The coil needs to admit large amounts of air through it for the other components behind it. Pressure washing or even a high pressure stream from a garden hose can bend some of the internal enhancements of the fins that cannot be undone. The parallel flow condenser uses thicker aluminum and a different grade( think harder to bend) than the tube fin style. Both condensers should have the same heat transfer rating( BTUH) as required by your trucks A/C system. The parallel flow condenser is slightly more efficient than the tube fin but costs more to make.
Good job, Astroeng.
FYI, a system designed as a system is harder to modify than at first appearance. IOW, stick with factory when it comes to HVAC. If you get 6, 7, 8 years out of it, consider that to be good.
