What difference is between `03: SO engine 47RE and HO engine 48RE?
is the torque converter same? how much power and torque it can handle compared to 48RE? i just think to put shift kit but maybe i must update torque converter also? i have ordered smarty s 06... and how much power i can take with "Smarty S 06" of SO engine?

The 48 has stronger internals (including the TC) than the 47. With a quality aftermarket TC and valve body the 47 could probably handle 4-500 HP.

I have the 47RE in my 03 so far so good with 59,500 miles on it although I do very little towing anymore. I do have a question about trans fluid change, in which I was planning at 60K. I'm going to do it myself this time but have no idea how to check to see if a band adjustment is needed or how to tell if they are well in spec.

My planned trans fluid intervals are at every 30K and the dealership did it at the 30K mark, who's to know but them if a band adjustment was done then, in which I doubt it was. Any of you dealership trans guys have any comments on this.

The main reason I'm doing the fluid change this time is I have received about 5 recall notices about having that "reverse safety alarm" installed on my truck and I do not want it installed. I do not trust the dealership not to install it even if I decline it with a written waiver.
