Question ? about Fuel..

This may be a long shot but I figured it's worth asking. Any one ever run Jet-A (Jet Fuel) in their trucks? Was just woundering if anyone possibly has and if so did you have any problems? Don't bash on me for asking I know there is a possibility of it being a stupid question just had to ask.

Well I know a buddy of mine used it in his older chevy diesel and a guy here at work runs some in his VW diesel... was just woundering about the truck because of the performance diffrences.

I have heard of this before. However, Jet Fuel doesn't have the lubricating properties found in diesel. The short of it was it would run but without proper lubrication...

"Jet Fuel" shouldn't offer a peformance benefit based solely on it's energy content - here's a short list to put things in perspective:

#1 Diesel Fuel 136,000 BTU/gal
#2 Diesel Fuel 138,500 BTU/gal
#5 Diesel Fuel 148,500 BTU/gal
#6 Diesel Fuel 152,000 BTU/gal
Propane 91,000 BTU/gal

Kerosene, Jet A and JP-8 have 125,800 BTU/gal, with JP-5 (higher flashpoint for naval operations) having about 1% less energy content. When kerosene shows up at an aviation terminal it's filtered, run through quality assurance/control and has de-ice additive blended in for starters.

JP-1, JP-2 & JP-3 haven't been used since Vietnam, and JP-4 (about 50% gasoline!) was phased out maybe 10 years ago due to flammability "problems" ()
I think JP-6 was made for an experimental bomber program that crashed - literally - back in the '50s... I remember it looked like the Concorde.
JP-7 of course was a boutique blend that was only used in the SR-71 Blackbird.

Incidentally, gasoline is down around 112-115K BTU/gal

If you really want to go faster on jet fuel, I recommend JP-9 at 142,000 BTU/gal or JP-10 at 141,500 BTU/gal; but my favorite is JP-10 because it's a single-hydrocarbon fuel, exo-tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene...

Tastes great - less filling!

Doubt you can score any though - my brother uses that stuff in some of the missiles he launches off his Hornet...

I ran a little JP-5 in mine, that's what we use on the air station... I was pretty scared. I put 5 gallons in a 1/4 tank, did not notice any difference.

JP-5 is lighter than water... I filled up a bucket, then went to lift it... I almost threw it over my head...

I'm thinking about finding a diesel truck on base and running jet fuel in it, and see what happens.

we dumped jp-5 into the diesel tanks for the diesel gen sets. when ever the jp-5 didn't meet aircraft spec's. the diesels ran hot for a while then cleaned out and made more kw/gallon of fuel. jp-5 has less lubrication. good fuel to blend with during the winter.
