To bad you can't just replace 6th gear with a different size gear.

THE ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEM IS A 'TWO SPEED REAR END FOR 2WH Highway operation... they make them for gravel trucks....you can not have it in high with the power divider ...So you make it lock in low for 4wd...! ta da

So in other words just because it might work for you dont mean it will work for me

what is your rpm@ 80 mph?
mine is +- 2500 add 7th gear and drop the rpm to 2200

or make 65-70 mph around 1800-2000

I love the idea of having a broader range to go thru

I knew that we had beat the lack of gear ratio options to a slow death on this forum long ago and they almost got stirred up for no reason If it were so simple we would have never started this thread

Gear vendors. Great for towing and great empty. I wish I had 4.10's in my axles now. I dont know why you all hate the GV. I love mine and it works awesome. MPG and less engine wear. I have to change the fluid every 10,000 miles. Thats 48 oz. 17 bucks of fluid. It will save you on fuel. Plus it cruises real good at 75 at 1750. I am now getting 17.1 mpg at 75. 3600 miles on her now.

From everything I have heard, GV just can't handle the power we can throw at them. I will end up with over 1000HP and 2000 ft./lbs of torque and the GV just can't take that on a 10,000lb. truck!

It isnt just the gear vendors that wont take that on a 10K truck!

Last truck I had put out 508 hp at the wheels and 900 ft lbs. This new truck will never see that kind of cash flow dumped on it for engine mods. Most people wont. It was fun but reliability "I think" was less. Never let me down but only so many hp hours in a motor. Wiggs, in your case it prob wont work. For 99.6% of the others on here, it will be just fine. I plan on either putting a smarty or edge attitude on it and that is it. Want to keep the stock clutch as long as possible. My last truck was fast (never lost to anyone that I dragged against on the road, and I raced a bunch), but there will always be someone quicker.

I agree. The GV is great for ALMOST everyone; just not those looking to push the envelope!

I'm gonna get one (Gear Vendors OD/UD)... within next two weeks. I will have my PacBrake PRXB put in first (this week?). I've been on the fence a bit about the GV unit... unloaded highway RPMs though - bad for mileage and not optimal for engine longevity either I imagine. No desire to bomb my rig, so no worries on excessive torque @ the gears ~ these mods all about efficiency. Too bad that's so expensive up front! <tries to focus on ROI>

I phoned gear vendor directly a month or two ago and asked if they made their 2 speed for the g56 and was told no and that the line would be discontinued real soon

http://www.usgear.cc/dr_appprice.htm#dodge4

not even in their list of applications

as for the 7th gear in the transmission.... even though the g56 is bigger than the old nv5600 (i think thats what it was called) 6th gear is so small that it can barely handle the power out of the motor if you put another gear in there it would have to be so small to get the gear ratio that you wanted it would probably just wear out in a real hurry and we all know little chunks of metal going thru other spinning chunks of metal isnt good

You phoned Gear Vendors? You have the US gear website posted. US gear is being discontinued and no applications for the dodge. The GV is the only unit available. I wish I had the US gear because you can use it in 4wd and you can engine brake with it.
