6spd Manual tramission fluid change

I am looking to change the fluids on my 06 1-ton 6spd transmission and transfercase. Do I need to know anything other than draining the old oil and filling it back up with fresh oil? What oil is recommended for this? I was going to go with a Synthetic. Any recommendations would help.

You would have the G56, that runs in ATF. I just went with Mopar myself.

Transfer case is 10mm, and I want to say the tranny is 14, but not sure.

Both of those use ATF... drain and fill is all you need to do. There may be a magnet strip in the bottom of the tranny, I suggest cleaning it off.

I believe Jeff is right, the Tranny is 14mm Allen, or was on mine, easy drain and fill with ATF.

I might be mistaken but they make different ATF oils. Is there one specific for dodge? Thanks

Just drain and fill. Filling them is a bi@tch though. Can fill them with a hose taped to a tapered bottle cap (like on gear oil bottles), but it's messy and time consuming.
I ended up using a little drill operated pump and a couple hoses. ( I alredy had the setup for sucking the oil and trans fluid out of my boat). Cost about $10 for the pump from Napa and another few $ for hose bib adapters and hose, but much easier. I bought ATF in gallon botles and it worked great. Much easier than trying to teaspoon the oil in. (And you'll find other uses for the $10 pump. They come in handy!)

I have run AMSOIL ATF in my trans with great success but on this last Change I just went with the MOPAR ATF4 from Wal Mart. Same stuff you get from dealer but only 4.00 a quart. I change mine every 25,000 or so and the book calls for 60,000 mile changes but I tow and like to tinker! LOL

Okay fellas, I was double checking on the trans oil because to tell you truth, it does not make sense to use ATF+4 trans oil on a manual trans. Well, when I purchased the truck, it didnt come with an owners man. So I had to do some research. I have a MBTG56 trans and I called three local dealers here in town and gave all of them my vin. Two of the dealers said it used a manual transmission sythetic fluid and one said it used the regular ATF+4 fluid. Well, I guess I will have to drain a bit and see what it is. Dont know what else to do...

If you don't know what to do, then go with the oem recommendation, which is ATF+4. Outside of that can come later when you're off warranty or, you've tried a few other ideas and are willing to experiment.

I use Royal Purple Syncromax, that's what you need not ATF+4 you can use something similar but your gonna need about 4.5 quarts. and a big allen wrench I think 14mm for the plug I have the nv 5600 so I know that's what mine uses, hope this helps.

well you can download a free PDF of your owners manual off of dodge too. go to dodge.com click on for owners enter the last 8 of your vin or select year and make and then click on owner/service manuals and download. And I opened it and I stand corrected it is atf + 4 that you use in the manual G56 Transmission so my bad and good on everyone else.
