I thought I read some rumor last year at the TDR forums about Dodge working on a 68RE (6-Speed) automatic transmission. I have since seen no mention of it. Anyone out there have any juicy tid bits of info? Or was this all just wishfull thinking on someone's part? ???

It's not outrageous. It's just that it took DC from 1989 to the 2003 model year to get their stuff together and &quot;try&quot; to make a decent auto. Now that it is here I think it will be around awhile because the other thing we don't think about is the cost to engineer and bring a new product to market. It's millions or sometimes even billions : The 48re will be around awhile ??? :

I am not saying the old 47's and the new 48re's are bad tranny's. What I am saying is after owning 5 D/A's and driving two new 6.0/torqueshifts, the Dodge auto tranny's leave a little to be desired

 

I do not know if Mopar is pursuing a 6 speed auto but the last issue of Motor Trend had a paragraph talking about Ford and GM in a joint venture to make a 6 speed auto.

Checked out the &quot;sighting&quot; and I am going to have to call B*** S*** on that story. Problem # 1 (as I see it) I really doubt that Mercedes has an auto that will bolt right up to the 5.9 (I don't think that the Germans are part of the adapt-a-kit crowd), I could be wrong but a 6 speed HD auto seems like a very narrow market nitch for Mercedes. Problem # 2 (same qualifier) Any auto manufacturer on the planet is likely to have a more sophisticated and stealthy testing procedure that distributing a 40 thousand dollar truck to &quot;some rancher&quot;.

I've got a crisp new $20 bill that says what we have here is the proud owner of a new truck that is having difficulty distinguishing between a TC lockup and a gear shift.

They had a computer behind the seat wired to the engine and trans. monitoring and storing info. They told us to beat the heck out of it and we did. We'd have it for six months to a year and they would come and swap it out for another.

 

I am with Nevada on this. It is just the same old typical TDR B.S. There is a lot of it over there.
