6 Speed drain

I am about to pull out what little hair I have left!

How do you drain the '04 6 speed?? I know it has to be really simple, but for the life of me I cannot find a drain plug!

Any help will earn a cold beverage when passing thru Las Vegas!

See if this helps... link

It basically says "The lubricant drain is the bottom bolt hole for the PTO cover"

Thanks Dude!

Is that hole low enough to drain all the oil? It doesn't look like it...

Here's a thread that might help... and confirmation that the lower PTO bolt is indeed the drain hole... link

maybe not, but once it is low enough to stop draining, just take the pto cover off and wipe the rest out with a few rags...

The fill hole is 17mm hex.....I found a metric bolt that fits, put a couple of nuts on the bolt and welded them on...works good and is cheaper than buying the hex bit.

When I drained mine I removed the LH PTO cover and wiped the transmission out with a clean rag and I found a magnet . I cleaned of the magnet with compressed air and put it back on the PTO cover.

Last night I drained the oil out of my 6 speed and refilled with Red Line MTL. Getting the oil back in is easier said the done. The refill plug makes it a pain to get a funnel up high enough to pour the oil in. I went out today and bought a pump for quart bottles for next time.

Shifting is a little smoother...but I have only driven about 20 miles......we will see and I will keep everyone updated.

BTW....leaving on the 1st to go fishing and camping in Montana

I won't miss the 200 degree heat here in Vegas!

Why are you guys changing the oil in the trans?
My old truck had 80k on it and I never touched the trans oil. Always shifted the same.

Definitely a good investment. I have one of those pumps with a 1/4" shaft that I just put in my cordless drill and it makes quick works of gear oil. I just filled my Jeep up with Redline MTL a while ago and it went through a quart bottle in about 20 seconds, I'd guess, all without making a mess... well until it was full and I didn't stop, so the extra all fell on my arm when I pulled the hose out.

I went to home depot and bought some clear tubing. dont' remember the diameter, but it was small enough to fit in the fill home and was tight on a funnel. tan it up though the engine compartment and poured in the lube. works well .
