4X4 selector switch

I just noticed tonight that there is a red neutral indicator on the 4X4 selector switch on the dash. Never saw that before.

Is there a way to put the transfer case in neutral? The switch only offers 2H 4H and 4L. It doesnt have a neutral position as far as I can tell. If there is a way to put it in neutral in case it needs towing, it would be good to know.

There should be a little rubber recessed button next to the switch, that when pressed, will put the transfer case in neutral... look in your owners manual, it will tell you.

Ok, I found the switch. I initially thought that was the red light indicator. Using the tip of a pen, I depressed it, and the 'N' light flashed, but didnt stay on when I let up on the button, and the transfer case remained in 2H. Is there a trick to it, or is it broken? Is it designed to just go into neutral momentarily to make shifting in and out of four wheel drive easier? If I recall, the manual floor shifters have a position for neutral.

It explains how to do it clearly in the owners manual. If you do not have one, I can look it up online when I get home.

Tried all that. The owners manual barely even mentions anything about it. All I get is flashing red light till I let off the switch. Never goes into neutral.

If it was flashing, then that means one of the conditions were not met for it to go into neutral.

This is out of the owners manual:

1. Bring vehicle to a complete stop.
2. Shut OFF the engine.
3. Place ignition key in the ON position.
4. Depress the brake pedal.
5. Shift automatic transmission to Neutral (N) or depress
clutch on manual transmission.
6. Using the point of a ballpoint pen or similar object,
depress the recessed transfer case Neutral (N) button for
4 seconds.
7. After shift is completed and the Neutral (N) light
comes on release Neutral (N) button.
8. Start engine.
9. Shift automatic transmission into Reverse (R).
10. Release brake pedal for five seconds and ensure that
there is no vehicle movement.
11. Repeat steps 9 and 10 with the transmission in Drive
(D).
12. Shut engine OFF and place ignition key to the
unlocked OFF position.
13. Shift automatic transmission into Park (P).
14. Apply parking brake.

Thanks Madhat. My owners manual doesnt say that anywhere in it. It mentions the button, and thats about it.

Trynto, I was thinking something like that too, but the **** doesnt turn past 2H.

Before I try this, am I correct to assume that by repeating the procedure, I can get it out of neutral? I must not have the same owners manual, as unless Im missing it, I cant find that info anywhere.

Thanks again.

I couldnt wait. I tried it and it works fine. Right now, I have my owners manual in front of me, and I see nothing about this. Maybe I have a different manual. Gonna go through it again, and if I find it, Im gonna call my eye doctor and try to get my money back!

Thanks again,
-Don

No worries, brother. That's what I'm here for.

Look under recreational towing.

Under the 4wd section, it has a bullet on how to put it into neutral, and under that, it says to look under the towing section.

They just can't make crap simple. That is out of an 04 manual...
