4x4 problems
4x4 problems
when i put my truck in 4wd and turn the wheels (on snow) there is some chunking, clicking noise in the front end. kinda sound like gravel under the center caps almost. could this be bad u- joints or carrier bearings. i really havent had the time to tear the front end apart to see so i need a starting point. by the way there is no funny noises what so ever in 2wd. and it doesnt sound like it coming from the transfer case. the truck has aprox 85,000 mi.
gotta clarify something, when you mean turn the wheel, do you mean as the wheels start to roll or turn the steering wheel and the wheels turn right or left. Did you notice any leaks from the inside of the wheel area (alxe seal, bearing seal)? Do you have automatic or manual locking hubs? If the noise only happens when you are in 4wd, I would check out the hub area.
I had the same thing when in 2wd and in 4wd also was front axel ujoints, and also ujoint in front drive shaft and cv joint both at where drive shaft meets transfer case . dealer change all under warranty also hubs were hard to get off he ruined one and replaced it .I tried to have them put in the spicer joints but under warranty only mopar parts
It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

Gravel in a hubcap is exactly what mine sounded like when it went.
