48re tranny help PLEASE!!!

HI guys long time looker none poster cuz the dodge has been flawless! But heres my problem. I have an 2004 dodge 2500 diesel that the tranny is slipping. all stock other than 285/75/17 tires. Went snowmobiling to colorado pulling an 8*20 cargo trailer with 4 sleds. made it bout 350 miles and the tranny would do some shuttering right after it shifted to over drive. slipping in high gear pulling the smallest incline. limped it the rest of the way there stopped at 2 dealers and called 2 more. Nobody would look at it till the next week. Tranny fluid has 20000 miles on it, and still looks good at this point. Make it to colorado sled for 3 days park trailer there and head home 700 miles. Tranny slips mostly in the high gear when going 65+ when trying to pass or climb an incline. make it home fluid still looks good. Can make it slip if i really push it hard. Local dealer want to throw tranny at her, and call it fixed. What do you guys think? been doing some research on here but no two problems are the same. Any suggestions for a new tranny or ideas on what may be going on with the old one? the truck has a 135000 miles and tranny fluid changesd every 30000. I also have a double deep mag hytec pan on the tranny. been driving the truck to work daily 15miles on way, sometimes it slips and next time it pulls like a frieght train??? never any problems slipping below 35mph. any help would be great sorry for the long post. thanks Zach

edit. tranny fluid was in the safe range. and no chip on the truck at the time

Sounds like the torque converter lockup clutch is done. The other clutch packs don't shudder when they're all worn out and slip, they just slip. New TQ, new oil and your probably good to go. With your miles, the trans could be just wore out though. Impossible to know for sure without checking trans pressures first.

I agree. I helped move my father-in-law to the southern part of Kentucky, had a 24 foot enclosed trailer loaded with all kinds of crap. I could feel the converter chatter going up some of the hills. I babied the truck the rest of the trip with no issues. Got home and installed a Trans-Go valve body kit, adjusted the bands, and is still going strong. I have a converter to put in the truck, I'm going to wait and see how long the stock stuff works. I change the fluid and filter every 40K, last time there was hardly any debris in the pan. Truck has 110K now.

Service it. Fluid and filter. The friction modifier in the fluid is breaking down.
