48RE problems please Help
This will be lengthy because it has been ongoing for about three months and this is what happened.
Stocker finally gives out, do a fresh rebuild with all new parts upgraded clutches, stock type tc, 7000mi in I was hauling through VA and then no over drive. I stop and check fluid level and all no problems not burnt. Hop back in and nothing would not move.
2 weeks later I get the truck back to the house and decide, that I should upgrade and Im sick of being stuck beside the road. I buy a BD tranny that had under 1500 miles out of a wrecked truck, had a cracked case, I thought well my tranny guy can switch cases no problem, bought a brand new bd billet triple disk tc. I run it around the house for a few hundred everything is fine. Hook up the trailer 1 st run about 350 miles into the trip it startes to smoke and the undercarriage is covered with tranny fluid that smel ls burnt. I nurse it home pull the pan replace with synthetic fluid and add a auto meter guage.
I call BD and ask questions and they were more than kind enough to give me some ideas so I did some adjustments on the cable that controls the lock up on the tc because it seemed like going up hills it was not locked in but yet not downshifting either.
Tonight Im in Princeton Wv. and It broke again. I was coming up 77 and once again smoke and fluid all over, trans temp was at 200 I pull over to see if I can do anything for it, I really cant see where the fluid is coming from it performed fine. I put some more tranny fluid in it because it was low, now I have 1st and reverse and occasionally it will go into second and drive but not all the time. Any suggestions would be great I will listen to anything at this point.
I thought a govenor pressure switch might work but let me know if Im wasting my cash.

Did u have have cooler line recall done ? C-44 i think , keeps the trans cooler from cracking under load c if your pressure line (the line towards the front) is rubber ,if not do the recall .aslo where did u install sensor 4 temp gauge u want it on that press line as close to box as poss.

It still has all the factory lines on it I will be pulling the pan later tonight, I have a celonoid coming from Ohio if we cant fix it I will have to get towed home by my buddies powerstroke, I will never hear the end of this one. There are not a lot of options for parts in princeton WVA on the weekends, I will check the lines and see if anything is wrong.
I would probably have the next one done by a different tranny guy. your current one isn't havng to much success with longivity.
Also make sure whoever does it flushes the TC, cooler and lines, otherwise you'll pump all the crud back into your new tranny and that won't help it any.

Why in the world did you even want to fool around with a used auto out of a junked truck? Should of just had yours redone by one of the reputable folks like HTT, Goerend, Etc. You may need to consider replacing your cooler lines and tranny coolers all together. Also, tranny oil temp in the pan is not the same as the tranny oil temp in the hot line.
Why in the world you ask about $2500 difference, sorry with the economy the way it is I was just trying to keep a little extra food on the table for my family. I need advice how to fix the problem Im having not just go spend another $3500 or however much it would be. The cooler and heat exchanger is a excellent idea, still does not explain why the truck going up the hill gains 500 rpm without downshifting. Im sorry to sound krass but a little frustrated at this point.
If you are gaining 500 RPM going up a hill with the tranny in 4th, the TC is slipping sending clutch pieces all through the tranny. You have 2 options, back off until it is not slipping or click the tow/haul and lockout 4th , go to Third Lockup, until you reach the top. This is actually the fastest way to grenade a tranny. Your options as far as a rebuild, I don't know, But the TC will need to be replaced and the VB will need to be gone through and be cleaned along with the tranny cooler and heat exchanger. I don't have a clue what the rest of your clutchs will look like. I hope this helps.
The tc was a brand new unit not used. It was a triple disk billet bd. I appreciate the post that is what I was also thinking I maybe got a bad tc. I will get on the phone with them and check it out. Thank you very much for your feedback. I have a stocker I can throw in right now until I get my other one serviced or replaced.
