Yes they can, go to a new dealership.
If the mechanics dont want to do the work, or are too lazy, no point in having your truck there...
It would be one thing if they suggested it might not need it yet, but to say its not possible is stupid.

Your 1-2-1-2 problem might be because of a governer solenoid or another electrical problem...

print this TSB out, take it to the dealership...

Dealership will probably screw you on the price, but wont hurt to ask...

I wouldnt be suprised if it was $200+ for fluid/filter/band adjustment...

For the solenoid, if you're out of warranty, youll probably have to pony up the money, but you can order the part for $30-40, there was a thread on here a while back that had how to do it, and where he ordered the part for that price, ill see if I can dig it up....

IMO, do the solenoid, new filter/fluid, then see if it helps with the 1-2-1, then adjust the bands after, or if you tow heavy(or higher miles)

The price of doing band adjustment?
  • 7 qts ATF+4 = $28
  • Filter = $13
  • In-lb torque wrench (if you don't have one)= $70
  • 6-pack of you favorite beverage = $3 to $18
  • Knowing you did it yourself and that it was ACTUALLY done = Pricele$$

The only time I can think it may need to be done sooner is if your Truck/Car/SUV spends its whole life in nothing but stop and go city driving.
Agree, with this anaolgy, hence schedule B.
