48RE Band Adjustment Bolt Sizes

Hey Ya'll,

Trying to make sure I have the right tools to make the band adjustments. Last thing I want to happen, is to drop the pan and find out I don't have the right tools.

Anybody know if the following correct?

Rear band Locknut 9/16"
Rear band Adjustment Screw 1/4" Hex
Front Band Adjustment Locknut 3/4"
Front Band Adjustment Screw 5/16" Square Male

One other question. Is it really important that the locknuts be tightened to the specified torque?

Thanks guys,

Michael

I think you need a torx head # 20 or 25, it should be posted on here, torque to 72 inch pounds, also i used a red marker pen so you can tell that you have backed off 3 turns after tightning it.

The lock nuts, probably not critical. But you need a torque wrench to set the band adj. screws anyway, so you might as well use it for both (although one is in ft-lbs and the other in in-lbs if I remember correctly- may need two torque wrenches). I'd do it just to be safe.

Also, you should have a new filter and 7 qts of ATF+4 for ATF in pan only or ~17 qts if doing the complete exchange.
