48 RE shift points

Is there any sort of programming that can be done to alter the shift points to a lower rpm?

You can loosen the adjustment on your throttle valve cable and that should help. On the driver's side of the engine there is a black plastic cover that is rounded on the front and square on the back side. It is held on with 2 plastic screws which you have to remove then remove the inserts they went into. Once that cover is off, you will see a couple of cables. The bottom one is the throttle valve cable. On the back side of the steel bracket you will see a white clip. Pay attention to where your adjustment is and then pry the white clip off carefully with a screwdriver. Push the cable in so that it loosens a little bit. This thing is very sensitive so only move it a tiny bit at a time. Test and tune......

The new trucks don't have that black plastic cover near the intake on the engine. They went to the fly by wire so there are no cables (just a small TPS sensor on top of the throttle pedal) I would like to know too, cause I like the tranny to engauge a bit lower when in just regular driving mode, like the way it shifts in that mode (when the wifes with me) vrs. the harsher shifting in tow mode (which I love) Hope some others can help us out.

Sorry, I didn't know that they changed it over.. You might have to take the pan off and adjust it from the valve body. There is an adjustment for shift points.....

I'll try to find the instructions I got w/ my valve body. There are two adjustment screws on the side of the valve body. One for line pressure and the other for the shift points. They have hex head screws and you can get to them without removing the VB. They are tough to get to though. I'll try to get that for you tonight.........

The screw you are talking about is for the minimum throttle **** points only. If you want to change the shifts at max throttle, it is more involved. As are the mid rpm points, but some change can be made with the TV cable. It is not recommended to adjust this softer/earlier, as this may not make enough pressure to hold the torque.

Sorry for the off-topic, but does anyone make a programmer type shift enhancer. Kinda like the superchips for gassers?

Thanks Dodgezilla. I'll keep an eye out for your post.
Re: J-Fox- post I think the lower rpm shift would be ideal. I would like to try it anyway- I can always set it back to stock.
Re: tcr post- I would definitely like a programmer type adjustment. Does anybody know if it exists?

Thanks guys.

48re

some are complaining that the 48re shifts into od at 40 mph.now some are saying shift points need to be lower. I;m glad I'm not a tranny engineer.seems like everyone should get a six speed and shift when ever they want to.

I'm just the opposite. I think it shifts way too early. 45mph overdrive lockup is way too soon for me. I would love to extend all the shift points out by about 5 to 7 mph. That would be perfect.
