410 gears in auto tranny

Does anyhave the 410 gears in there auto? Mine has 373 and I kind of wish that I had went with 410. I was wondering if the tranny acted better with the 410? I have made several posts about my tranny and still searching for the best way to go.

I have 4:10's. What do ya want to know? Mine will pull a house down, but kinda low geared for the road. I'd keep them if I had a choice, tho...

The tranny hunting shifting thing is not limited to the 3:73 gears, the 4:10's do it also. It's not gear ratio that's causing the problems. Some trucks have the problem and most do not. I don't think anyone really knows why or how to cure it.

Talk to this guy www.gbtransmissions.com maybe he can lead you in the right direction. I know he's an aftermarket parts producer but he'll take the time to help anyone.

I poll alot and the 373 seems fine. I just wondered if it would help the shifting with 410.

I have 4.10 gears...

Haven't had a hunt problem but also haven't towed anything heavy yet, most loaded was 4 passengers plus 620 pound bike in the bed during a trip from Texas to Ohio and back. Let my brother drive and he thought something was wrong because the tranny almost never shifted even on the long grades through Kentucky or during passing (unless ya really hit the throttle). Had to give him a lesson about the "awesome" torque that diesels produce. He was also amazed we only filled up once in a little over 1200 miles at the halfway point between San Antonio and Dayton...

I have the 4.10 gears also and the transmissions continuous indecision was downright dangerous especially while towing! I had my valve body modified and no longer have that problem. It is probably the best performance modification I have done to date!

If your talking towing up grades and down shifting then yes 4:10's are great for towing. If your transmission is hunting during normal driving or towing on flat land then you need to take care of the transmission problem first.

Some times a mild power upgrade will help the hunting issue since the extra power helps the truck to stay within a RPM range. Be forwarned about performance modules or downloaders as they can void your warranty.

Odd thing towing heavy in the tow haul mode the tranny does pretty darn well. I put my quad race box back to stock and that didnt help at all in just everyday driving. I had the box on the 2nd setting and I am going to try the others. Like I said before these trannys are set up for open highways.

It want hold a gear like other autos I have driven. Everytime I slow down for a curve it goes hunting. Any amount of throttle makes it shift down. It would help alot if the throttle position in the computer. I try to be as smooth as I can be exiting a curve. Then I wish the od would kick in a little sooner. Alot of times I am driving little over 40mph and tacking 2k rpms.

Exactly what my truck did, I'd jump out to pass and there was a 1+/- second delay before it would hit passing gear.

With my quad box on full tilt it would take forever to hit 4th gear while at the track. With a trailer attached the problem was amplified even without the quad box

As my trans guru told me increasing the volume of fluid through the valve body is the major culprit. He only increased the pressure by 10-15 lbs, but the volume of fluid was increased by almost "300%". This enables better cooling, better shifting, and longer (still stock) torque converter life. Plus it gained me .3 seconds in the quarter mile!!
