3rd injection is BS

This thread would be for those of us who have been concerned with the 3rd injection event that we thought occured with our 04.5 and newer trucks.
Well after speaking for 30 or so minutes with the two top diesel mechanics at the local Dodge dealership I am pleased to announce that there is no such thing as a 3rd injection event to heat the cats, according to these certain individuals the only DC product that used the 3rd injection was on the diesel jeep liberty's. I also learned that our 600 & 610 ftlb engines will only make 600 or 610 ftlbs of torque if the A/C is on.

This should help some of us sleep better ,
Tyler

FYI, The individuals I am referring to also sent me out of there shop with front left wheel bearings shoot and bad upper ball joint on the right side and told me to drive it until it broke, threw a code or showed an idiot light. GO figure, Oh ya I am looking for a new dealer.

Heck, now you need to ask the TOP DOG monkey wrenchers if they ever had any training in the ISB engine at all , there is a third injection on all 04.5 and on up but only up to a certain RPM right off idle. the new ISB will have 5 injections but at certain time to keep the DOC hot, you wont know when.

Thumbs up 610 ft-lb w/o A/C

Who's interested in a wiring mod that'll allow the CTD to develop all 610 ft-lb of torque with the A/C off (and of course the fan clutch disengaged) ???

I've thought about doing this since I first discovered the feature...

I'm sure you can mod that, run a hot line but it's how much power, and amp rating that is supplied to the ECM that knows the AC is on. Be cool but I'm gonna wait a bit longer, still in warrenty if I need something expensive.

I wouldnt be surprised if the 04 and up trucks do not have the third injection as they represent it. (They have a pre injection). If they did then I would think that higher then normal EGT's would be felt along the system.
What most trucks have now is a particulate filter, the same as gas engines have had for some time now. It catches the particulate and traps it. Then with the increase in back pressure increases temps so as to burn off the trapped material.

Now fast forward to the new 07 engines which will actually use a 3rd injection event to burn that particulate. Once a certain amount of restriction is felt on the system then the vehicle will actually heat up the EGT's so as to burn off the particualte. So now your Cats will burn red with the excess heat generated.
This is one of the more major concerns of ther newer systems not only in our trucks but also the big rigs. This excess of heat generated by increasing the EGT's to burn the particulate actually can cause parts that are close, such as the frame, brake lines and the cabin to be heat treated and or melted to the point of failure. Initally they were going to keep the temps up all the time. Due to the fact that a glowing red hot Cat all the time would cause other problems they deceided to allow for amount of restriciton and then burn the cat. The same is done in some major industries to quall exhaust from theri big stack pipes.
Hence fuel economy will go down a bit and the added cost of heat sheilding, extra sensors for heat, back pressure, o2 content and so on will be adding to the overall cost of a new truck be it a pickup or a Semi.

If that's the case, I guess I'd better start looking at ordering the '07 5.9L ISB's then.

John,"now you need to ask the TOP DOG monkey wrenchers if they ever had any training in the ISB engine at all".

That's where I almost had to start laughing because they both made me aware that they had learned this while in one of DC's training schools.

I would've asked them the number of the code for a failed bearing and/or ball joint.

They sound like a couple of dandys. Sharp as a marble comes to mind.

Staarma,
Your stars must all be in aline cause that was the other thing I had them look at while it was in (ball joints and bearings, truck was all over the road) they told me all was well. That night after I got my truck back I lifted the front end off the ground and you could shake the left front tire. Took another shop and sure enough left wheel bearings and right upper ball joint were toast.

Wow. Sounds as though you found a new shop that actually knows something about service and repair at least.

Ya I hope so, The most amaming thing was when I dropped the truck off at 8 am, they said they should not have any trouble being done with it by 4 pm and oddly enough I got phone call at 3:45 pm and got told it was ready to go (and it was).
