3 micron drop in fuel filter?

Maybe I'm way behind on stuff , but I just found out that AFE makes a 3 micron fuel filter that goes in the canister on our trucks.their part #44-FF10 and sells anywhere from 21-29 dollars depending on where you buy it.Anyone else heard of this?

I've read from others who've spoke directly to AFE, it is only a fuel filter, not a water separator

The AFE filter is not a water separator.

Best bet is to use the Baldwin PF7977 fuel filter. Best filtration and a water separator.

Not to mention I believe the AFE filter is only rated 3 micron nominal and not absolute.

I've been using the Baldwin fuel filter. There is a differance in the color of the filter compared to the stock filters I've used in the past. I've been meaning to post some pics of the two side by side. The stock filter is tan in color after 10000 miles and the Baldwin is a light shade of black. No hunks of stuff just a much darker color than the stock filter. Most of the fuel was pre-filtered before it ever got to the Trucks primary filter from the rear aux tank equipped with a Racor Rotary type water seperator filter with a 10 micron filter in it.

Dave,

The dark material are asphaltenes that is caught by the filter. Since the Baldwin has a lower (better) micron rating it's doing better job of trapping the particles.

That was my point. Big difference if you ask me between the two filters. Did not know what the black stuff was. Ran 619 gallons thru that Baldwin. The previous filter had 677 gallons run thru it. It was Tan in color as metioned above.

Thanks

The AFE is 7um absolute, 3um nominal and not a f/w separator.. As its been said the Baldwin PF7977 is the best available.
