285/75 vs. 35's
For G56 guys what do you guys think would be the better tire, the 35x12.50 or 285/75/17? I want to get rpms down, and try to pick up a MPG (or a least not lose as much)

Most likely it will be the thinner tire (285/75) that will provide the least rolling resistance and better mpg, but both the 285s and 35s will be heavier than stock, so that needs to be taken into account as well.
Even still, I gained a bit of mileage when I went to 305/65s from the stockers since I was able to drop hwy rpms by ~200-250.

I'm running the Toyo MT 35s on mine, and while my RPMs are down on the highway, the lift and the heavier tire have dropped my MPG by about 1 MPG on the highway. I would say no lift, and a skinny, tall tire would obviously be the best for better MPG.

I have a NV5600 but I have 35x12.5's and I lost about 1mpg. The r's are a lot lower at highway speed but the tires are very wide and cause more resistance.

I'm going with the 285-75-17's next due to these awful fuel prices. I've got some H2's ready to go in the shed, but it looks like 35's are not going to happen.

I have been trying to decide which size to go with for awhile. After seeing the thread with 305's, I may end up with that size. I like the look of a fuller fender well.

It's too bad that the tire manufacturers won't give us a tall skinny tire like 265/85-17 or a 285/80-17. Right now I'm running 35s & wish that I can get the gear down effect without going to a tire 315 (12.5) wide.

eventhough im running a 48re, the 35s did lower the rpms. i can see it doing the say for the 6spd. they are about an inch and a half wider than the 285s and are heavier. they lower the rpms, which adds up to alittle better mpg. plus they will look better too.

Yep,
Seems the tall, skinny tire would be the answer but not a really good answer out there. Maybe as fuel prices increase and there becomes enough demand, they'll start to make one?

Does a 285/75-17 exist? Don't you mean 285/70-17? If that's the case then the RPM difference is significant. The 315 has an OD of 34.4 & the 285 has an OD of 32.7" which is a 5% difference (100 RPM at 70 mph).
