Got back from the dealer late night, talk to the diesel tech. What the problem is the ECM has numbers burned in to it and if he try to re-flash it the computer will not take the new flash because of the incorrect number. The tech told me I would have to find a new ECM from the same truck with the same options.
I receive my new van Aaken Smart Box 3.2 late night and was looking at it and I did not like the LITTLE toggle switch. The switch has no marking on which direction to start with. I think they could have done a better job for the money!

I think there is more to this. Many of us that have had the smoke and economy reflash have had a VIN code in the memory when we got the truck back ! Mine is still there , but has not set the "chime" off in quite a while. I think it has a history function only, and is not an actual "active diagnostic". Like I said " I THINK " and that is what usually gets me in trouble. Why would it have been there in the first place,,,,,,,,,,, either 1) dealer mechanic missed a step and forgot to clear "GENERATED CODES " from the reflash work or 2) an incorrect VIN resides in the ECM and I am still driving around with no noticable effects(except the speedo is off after the mechanic told me he used 601 as the new number and my mph seems to be about 18% high) Anyway I'm going in this week to get it all staightened out...

It has nothing to do with VIN numbers on the ECM , the dodge ecm on the 3rd gen are burned with a code once and cannot change that code but you can flash a revision , but can never change the ecm calibration that is originally burned into the ecm. you can get the H.O. ecm and install it on the engine, I think it would be more beneficial to get a bully dog power pup, I dont believe Marco has done any 3 gen ecm yet.... that would be my other choice.
