2006 got flashed, but which flash?
I'd been getting P2509 and P0111 codes on and off for 3 weeks or so. I took my truck in yesterday to the local dealer. It has 10,800 miles on it.
First of all, my local 5 star dealership has no customer service skills. When I mentioned to the service tech I turned the key 3 times and it read back the codes above, he started laughing. I asked him what was so funny. He shook his head and said those numbers don't mean anything and they would have to plug the truck in to diagnostics to determine what the 'real' codes are. Basically he said I'm stupid and to leave the troubleshooting to the professionals. I should've taken my keys and left.
Anyway, the work order says they flashed the ECM with new software. There isn't a TSB listed or any number that looks like a part number. There isn't a new tag under the hood with any flash information. I'd like to find out which flash they put on, if any at all. My truck doesn't run any different, shift any different, high idle is still enabled. I was really hoping they were going to put the latest 2006 flash on that others have talked about. I've read some posts that their idle went up to 825 or so, but they notice better mileage, better shifting, white smoke is gone, etc, etc, etc.
Is there any way I can tell what flash they put on?

If they flashed it they have to put a sticker under the hood with the new ECM part #. The part # is the flash and it should read 35325533AS since it's the latest flash.
Flash # 35325533AS includes
TSB 18-001-07 (Engine control for P2502, P2503, P2509 codes)
TSB 18-003-06 Rev A (Long crank, 48RE Shift improvement, Battery charging)
TSB 18-005-06 Rev B (Irrationality codes, Cold turbo protection, Clutch protection)
TSB 18-032-06 (Engine Controls for P0109)
TSB 18-041-05 (White smoke, Fuel economy)

Funny that you mention that, I think I got a reflash as well and don't know what one just last week!
I took the truck in for some other warranty work, new ball joints, new steering box, front crank seal. I had also complained about poor mileage, they told me they would look into all of these issues.
Dealership was closed when I picked the truck back up, but have noticed on the last few tanks that the mileage is WAY up. Yeah! I'm hoping it's not a coincidence.
I did have a different reflash done last sping because it kept tripping a CEL for the Battery Temperature rationality or some such thing, this was supposed to improve mileage as well but did not.
I am going to continue to check carefully for the next few tanks but so far it seems as though something is obviously different.

yup, these days if you get a re-flash you'll get the sticker under the hood. when i got mine re-flashed, i noticed much easier cold starts and the truck ran better than new. i wonder if they gave you the 'house special' re-flash, where they never actually plug your truck in but put it on your print out and bill d/c for it.
just spoke to a buddy who used to work as a diesel tech for dodge, and he said it is unlikely that a flash would have been done without the sticker put on, but not impossible. he said that if you want to be sure, go to another dealer and they can just plug your truck in and it will show if your ecm has been flashed with the latest version/updates. if it hasn't, just tell them that your truck is putting out an excessive amount of white smoke, and you're having a cold start issue and they should give you the re-flash for free, as there is a tsb for this.

I think they did do some kind of flash though, or at least had the computer hooked up because my speedo has been calibrated. Under tire warranty, I went from 265/70-17 stock Michelin's that were all cracked to BFG All Terrain 285/70-17. When I did so, my speedo read about 1 to 2 mph below my GPS unit. I checked it last night with the same GPS and it was right on, actually maybe a bit higher reading on the speedo than the GPS now. So I think they programmed my new tire size at least.
But I have no sticker, and my repair bill said "Flashed ECM with new software". It does not give any part number or any other description.
These are the same guys that told me they had never heard of high idle and did not believe me until I pulled out my manual and showed them on page 267 IIRC, where it says your local dealer can enable high idle with Star Scan tool.

I believe all manufacturers are required federally to put a calibration update sticker on the vehicle any time a ecm "running change' has been made.
I know my 6.0 furd had 7 different updates and a different sticker for each one.

It's federal law that a sticker is placed in the engine compartment when an ECM/ ECU is "flashed". I can get you the FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard) number stating it tomorrow when I go into work.
Just got the Flash # 35325533AS. On the way home about a 85 mile drive the fuel guage didn't hardly move. Thought it was the wind at my back improving my MPG, hopfully it's as tool says. Keep us informed.
I've had my truck flashed twice, once last spring and now. neither time did I get a sticker. I know they installed flash #35325533AS as I stood right there will it was being performed. Maybe me and the mechanic shooting the bull distracted him both times and he forgot about the sticker.

I just got out of the big house after serving a year sentence for failure to sticker a truck I flashed. My cell mate was busted for running a taller than factory tire (it is a federal emisions violation....no s##t!) It's getting tough out there.
I wouldn't get to "wound up" about not having a sticker. I've "forgotten" a few in my day. If it does concern you do as one of the above posters mentioned and stop in somewhere and get it hooked up to see what p/n you have. .....and I also find the odom numbers somewhat trivial. The scan tool will tell you how long the code has been stored. I'm sure there have been hundreds of guys that come on here, read that tidbit, run out to there trucks only to be greeted by a couple of codes that are so old they are pretty much irrelavent, but they can't see the "key cycles" or store info as to when they were set. Anymore, nearly any 07-08 truck that comes in WILL have codes set in one module or another.
....did you look at the ECM??? technically the "decal" is supposed to be affixed to the controller that is being updated. I've seen stickers on ECMs before (not sure who would bother to crawl down there to do that....but it happens)
