I am looking at a 06, 2500 4x4 auto with 143,00 miles. What should I check or have checked out on the truck if i wont to buy it.

 

If there is anyway for you to check the injectors, it would be a good place to start. The factory fuel filtration leaves a lot to be desired.

 

Maybe get the oil analyzed.

 

Make sure the heater and A/C systems work in all possible different modes and blow from the proper vents.

Check ball joints and u-joints.

If possible, maintenance records would be nice.

That is quite a few miles, I thought the 87K on mine was high.

I wouldn't say the miles are that wildly high for the year, I bought my 06 was new mid february of 07 and it has 120k+

So some 06's would be on the road since what? August or september of 05?

so I put about 3,300 miles a mont on, my truck would have close to 180k in that time frame for comparison.

 

With all thats being said about injectors and carbon on the rings etc etc, I would pull the injectors, and do a compression test while your in there.

Hopefully you can talk the guy down in price enough to figure in the price for new sticks and a tranny, new BJ's and new front bearings. Take off another $1000 for miscellaneous and then you have the money for fixing whatever you find wrong.

So if a 2006 with 60,000 miles is worth $20K, and you can get this one for 12K, you could use the extra 8K you save and get some nice replacement parts. Then you'd know what you have.

 

i have a 141k on my 06 now and have had minor inector issues and the ball joints are starting to wear some. other then the crappy seats an dm flywheel no major issues

 

Thanks for the info. It is a a Chevy Dealer and I am looking at trading in my 08 Dmax for a cheaper payment now that I have a kid on the way and need to get into a house. (I have owned 3 dodge diesel before and only one that had major problems). its was $22,500 but it is now listed for $19,700 its very clean, but does have what looks to be a 4 inch superlift with 18 inch wheels and 33/12.50/18 i think. Any Transmission problems in that year with the autos and can thay check to see if I ever had a Programmer on It.

 

With a lift and new wheels it has had a programmer.

Too much coin for me. I wouldn't pay it.

A friend of mine just got an 05 with 100K on the clock for $10,000. It needed a transmission, so he dropped 3K on that. Now he has an 05 with a new trans for 13K.
