2006 2500 5.9 slipping in first gear.

Good evening all. My 2006 2500 5.9 4x4 started slipping in first gear today. I was pulling a small 18' boat on a single axle trailer and noticed when I accelerated away from a stop sign the transmission was slipping badly in first gear. The lake is only about a 40 minute drive, but bu the time I got to town I could hardly get 1st gear to engage at all. If i nurse it up to speed gradually and get into 2nd gear everything after that seems to be okay. Even after unhooking the trailer I could hardly get any bite in 1st gear. It did get hot about a month ago pulling a travel trailer up the 4-lane at Shaver Lake. The fluid is not brown or black but did look to be over filled. Might this be the torque converter finally crapping out?

Was it just first gear? If so doesnt seem like the converter to me. I’m far from expert but the torque converter is loaded up in all gears. I’d suspect bands or clutches
