Starting in second gear?

How many of you with a 5-speed take off from a stop in second? Who prefers to start in first? Why?

I take off in second every time unless I'm pulling something.It just seems like it's easier to get the truck moving because first gear is so low.

Load = 1st Gear
No Load = 2nd Gear
Racing = 3rd Gear

I have a 6spd but the ratios the same except in the middle...

I only went to using 1st after putting on the 40's. Can do 2nd but 1st is smoother.

3rd launch is near impossible in a 5sp without a DD and even then it has to be hard on the clutch

I start out in second every time unless I have a really heavy load.

Sure is fun though.

I usually use second for starts, unless its up hill, or its first thing on a cold engine.

Sounds like mostly everyone starts in 2nd..I do too, but sometimes I like to run through all the gears because it makes me feel good

Further: 3rd doesn't work well with a stock engine.

I see... I like to start in 1st, seems smoother, but it sure takes such a long time to shift through to 3rd where I can finally start picking up speed that I almost can feel those small cars breathing down my back... until I get to 3rd and 4th where they simply disappear far behind somewhere Sometimes I go in 2nd but its not very smooth, so I was wondering what ya'll do.

I always start in 1st unless I'm already rolling at all. I'm trying to make my clutch last!

I have to start in 1 at all times because the ceramic wants to chatter if I try to start out in 2. It really bites because 1rst is really slow with the 4:10's.
