2005 Using Oil
Howdy all,
I recently purchased a used 2005 3500 4x4 dually. As I usually do with a new to me vehicle I did a complete fluid change. I used Premium Blue 5w-40 cuz the guys at Napa make me a good deal on it. So with 97500 on the clock and 1500 miles on the oil I parked it and drove my cherokee for a couple of weeks. Needing the truck to haul 12 tons of rock for my new driveway I checked her oil before cranking the ol' girl up and she was BELOW the add mark. I added 2 quarts to bring it up to safe and used it to haul my rock. This is not my first cummins, however i usually never have to add oil during the course of a 7500 mile oil change. Any ideas?

Who changed the oil on the last change? Do you remember if they added oil to the fill mark on the dipstick or what the manual said?
I had my oil changed by Dodge during the first couple of changes. When I checked my oil for the first time afterwards the truck always showed low. I finally figured out that the guy changing the oil was not filling the filter first when he added the oil. After the filter filled itself up the dipstick always was a quart and half low.
