2004 automatic tansmisson
2004 automatic tansmisson
I have been looking at a 2004 dodge 2500 cummins with the automatic transmission in it. It has 152000 miles on the truck. How are these trannys, are they any good. Any info on them would be great. I do not plan on throwing alot of power to it, mostly running it stock.
i have a 2005, 2500 with 62K miles and auto transmission.
so far, its been a great truck, i had the trans serviced at 42K
i understand most guys that have trans problems have upped the power on the motor and that takes out the trans.
mine is a 4 sp auto,
note: it only has tow/haul mode, so you cannot lock out overdrive on a 2005 model, i do not know about the 2004 models
but a few years later they did change the trans so you could lock out the overdirve.
it been a good truck and i would buy another one.
head lights are poor, if you drive alot at night you will want to upgrade the bulbs.

I have a late (May) 2003, 72K miles. I have serviced the trans every 20K miles with a filter/fluid change, no flush. The truck is rarely used without the 4000lb Arctic Fox camper on it, and towing a trailer with quads. I do have a quadzilla box on it, but do not run above level 2 which is about 65hp.
I have had no issues with the tranny. Matter of fact, I have very few issues with the truck at all. A new injector at 5K miles, the power steering recall, and the ECM connector recall. A pinion seal went at 50K miles, and the lift pump at 65K miles.
Having said that, I have seen others with issues at low miles <50K...Check it out thoroughly. If you know someone that has owned one, let them go over it and drive it.

I have 136,000 on my 2004. Only trans issue was replacing the governor pressure solenoid and governor pressure sensor. This is a relatively easy repair when you are doing a normal trans service.
