2004.5 "newbie" with fuel issues

Hey guys. I'm needing some help troubleshooting what I believe to be a fuelling issue. The truck runs great up to 2000-2500 RPM's. Somewhere in the 2000-2500 RPM range, though, it stumbles and falls on its face. Pulling a load seems to make this happen sooner in the RPM range. It sometimes won't do it at all if not loaded. The first lift pump went out, and was replaced by the dealer at 24,000 miles. I'm not at 53,000 miles. Wondering if the 2nd lift pump is on the way out now. Any ideas?

Right now, the only thing on it other than OEM is an AirMax Intake kit. I've got a Quadzilla XZT that was on it, but melted the turbo about a month ago (dealer replaced) and haven't put the XZT back on yet. I've been waiting to get a Commander installed so I can see what's going on before putting the module back on.

You mean Glacier setup.

The fuel filter has been changed right?
Sounds like either injectors or lift pump, or worst case injection pump.
Id take it in to have them check it out, if its still under warranty it shouldnt be a big deal....

I've got a 10:00 appt. tomorrow for the dealer to check it out. I'd been looking into the Glacier system already. Sounds like it might be time to order.

I changed the fuel filter about 500 miles back. No change.

Thanks for the help....

I'm almost embarrassed to admit to this, but the dealer found that the K&N pre-filter around the K&N 6" round filter on my AirMax system had plugged off enough that the engine was "shutting down" for lack of air at the higher RPM's. The dealer removed the pre-filter and took the truck down the road with all diagnostic equipment still attached and there were no shut-downs. I was skeptical myself, so I hooked up to a 10,000-lb trailer and went down the road myself, also finding that the truck was running as it should up to nearly 3000 RPM's.

Thats why they make those K/N filter cleaning kits

It may have been a contributing factor in melting your turbo also you think?.

Glad you got it figured out.

I very seriously doubt the Quad box took out your turbo. I beat it was your filter setup passing to much dirt. How the heck did you get that turbo replaced under warranty. Most places would of tried to void your warranty for dusting the motor. You are one lucky person.

The filter was cleaned only about a month before the turbo had melted, which was about two months before the issue with the pre-filter. I'd also cleaned the pre-filter then, too. I'm not sure what had gotten all over the pre-filter so quickly.

I'd taken the truck to the dealer where I purchased it new, or I'd also say that they would have been trying to void out the turbo warranty. Actually, they even called me and asked that I provide them with the factory airbox, just in case Cummins sent out a tech rep to inspect the truck for such device.

Does anybody out there recommend a different washable filter setup? (what am i setting myself up for here?)
