2003 Truck Purchase

Would an automatic truck delivered to GA in March of 2003 have a HO or SO? Thanks for your help.

Either Way

Could be either S.O. or H.O.. And it could have 47re or 48re respetively. You'll have to pop the hood to find out for 100% sure. But with that early 2003 delivery date, I would be more willing to gamble on it being a S.O..

I have a 2003 with H.O. and 48re. There are tons of 03 H.O.'s up here in CT it seems and hardly any S.O. trucks. Why, I'm just not sure.

Thanks, is there any way to tell from the VIN? I am supposed to pick the truck up on Friday, but when I looked at it earlier in the week I did not check the engine tag. It seems like March would be a late year build? If they swap model production in June or July, then wouldn't March be at least 1/2 way through the production year, so is it still considered an early model? Thanks for your help!

There is a tag on the engine that will tell you what the Hp rating is. HO is 305 for 03 build.

You can tell by the vin# call it in to a dealer.Mine is a HO auto 48RE built in june.I know 2 guys with SO built in march they have the 48RE,and they could of ordered the HO but chose not too.You could end up with a 235-250-305 HP in that truck. It should be a 48RE in there.

The 8th digit of the vin is the engine code. The HO is a C. I'm not sure what the SO is.

if it was built march of 03 it will deffinately have the 48re in it, they started the 48re on Jan 1, 2003. but you will just have to check on the HO/SO question

Darn, all these model-year overlaps can get confusing!
But HorseHauler is correct.

Thanks for the help. The 8th digit in the VIN is a "C" so it sounds like a 305 truck. I call to teh owner seems to confirm this information. I am also excited to learn that the truck has the 48RE. Thanks for all of the help.

all 305/555 autos have the 48RE, but not all trucks with 48RE are 305/555.
