2003 diesel

my 2003 has gotten very loud since new (that is the motor, normal diesel sound) it is as loud as my 1998 was. Other than that runs fine? it is low milage. still under warrenty and dealer says nothing is wrong...but they don't sell allot of diesels so don't think they know what they are doing. Would this be a noisy injector or pump or what ???

Try using some Standyne additive. Yes, they do get noisier over time.

Exactly how many miles are on it? Chances are someone here knows reasons why.

Mine's definitely louder than when new but it's nowhere near as loud as a 2nd gen. I'd look at injectors if I were you. I remember lots of posts about the #6 injector giving people problems in the 03s..

41,000 miles on mine and it is louder also. I guess this is normal?

It cleans the carbon off the injectors and helps lube all the little parts in your fuel system. Something like Stanadyne (arguably the best) or Power Service Diesel Kleen (easier to find) for 2 or 3 tanks will do wonders. If you stop by Shucks Auto or NAPA or something like that, they will have Valvoline Synpower Diesel Injector Cleaner that will absolutely work wonders for dirty injectors. It is not a lube though….just a good occasional cleaner. Low mileage trucks that do a lot of short trips and don’t work hard for a living will dirty up and knock/rattle/get really loud in no time. It can be made fairly quiet again.

As others have said, put in some sort of additive and switch where you get your diesel from. You will be amazed at the difference in performance.
I use AMSOIL products and yes they make a big difference in sound and performance.
Good luck
