Smile 2003 cummins hose leak

Hi Everyone,

I"m new to this site and I just bought my first dodge.
2003 automatic. 160,000.

I am working on changing engile oil, tranny fluid, etc... to get the truck on my maintenance schedule.

Thing is that I found a bad connection between the end of one hydraulic hose and an aluminum tube that I think are both connected to tubing that runs horizontal to the ground in between the radiator and the front air intake.

Working on it now trying to trace these lines. Can anybody help me figure out the function of these and maybe give me a pointer on how to disconnect these connections without the fluid spilling out everywhere. Or maybe the only way to do it is to drain the fluid?

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I believe the line, that you are describing, goes to the transmission cooler.

ssteve58,

Thank you for the reply. I live in the Santa Cruz mountains and my internet has been down for almost a week! I've been waiting to say thanks. You were right, my leak was in the tranny cooler hoses. I don't know how to change them out so I am going to take it to my local mechanic.

That's a great idea. I hadn't thought about it, but I'm definitely looking into it now. Any suggestions on a good set up?

I also have a 2003. I bought it new, great truck. Mine is a six speed one ton. I have a dealer installed Jacobs Exhaust Brake. It is great to have if you tow or drive in a lot of hills or mountains.
Why not check out the DTR STORE,it has two great choices. Check it out.
Good luck.
