coolant leak from overflow hose

After making a 700 mile run from MD to MI for a funeral, when checking the oil this morning I found white coolant stains everywhere under the hood and coolant sitting on top of the air cleaner housing assy in those reinforcing pockets that line the perimeter.

Inside the radiator, the coolant looked to be about an inch low.

Looking at the overflow tank, it appears that no radiator coolant has ever flowed into it - it is perfectly clear & pink.

I gently blew into the the overflow hose to verify it is clear of obstruction - it was clear.

I added some water to raise the level of coolant (a quarter inch of water from a gallon jug of distilled). I purposely poured some water into it to overflow into the hose and it seems that the hose has hardened over time and lost its seal.

I ended up putting a hose clamp on the hose. Hopefully it'll be dry later today.

This is the first time I've added coolant; and last time I checked the level was a couple of months ago and the level seemed fine.

As an afterthought, I did notice the temp level to fluctuate a little on the ride in in WV's little mountains - it moved to a little past the center line hash mark, when it normally rests on the left side of the hash mark. I was running about 75/unloaded and have about 25k on the odo.

Adjust your coolant level per the manual.

See if it still acts up. You might have a radiator leak. Someone else had a leak found in the rad when they had the test for leaky freeze plugs done.

Worse case scenario is a headgasket leak.

Put a couple hundred on her yesterday - hose clamp worked. Everything is dry and levels look good.

The previous fluctuating of the t-stat still has my attention. I may change it out when I get home. May try a 190.

Just looked at mine this morning. It looks like there has been a little leakage. I'm going to put a clamp on it too.
