2 Readiness Monitors not active

Due for smog by end of July.

I disconnected my batteries a few weeks ago to disconnect the intake heater (Stuck on).

Anyways I can't seem to get Fuel and CC active (Misfire is active).

I know there is a flash to address this on some 3rd gens but my dealer will not tell me if I've had the flash. Just says bring it in and for $185 we'll see if there are any flashes available.

I told him no, this is a Cali mandated flash, no charge.

1st question.

Are there any members here who still work for a dealer in service?

2

If I provide my VIN are you able to see if I have the K01 flash or if I even need it?

3

Is there a number for the flash that I can compare to the flash sticker under my hood to see if it's been done?

Thanks in advance, Adam

My K01 flash was done at the dealer no charge.
What did occur is they fried my ECM. Star Chrysler authorized a replacement.
A certificate was issued and the information sent to the DMV that the reflash was done.
It had to be done in order to register the vehicle. My renewal paperwork was marked need the K01 flash.
This might help.

I ran my VIN and nothing about the Flash. I assume because it's not a safety issue so it isn't a "Recall" it's a "Service Bulletin".

I do thank you for the response.

I assume if your 2007 needed it, my 2006 should.

Okay, kinda confused.

I just read the Cali Smog book from 06/2018

Issue: Fuel System ans Comprehensive Components will not complete.

Instruction to instructor: Test normally OIS ignores Fuel and Comprehensive Component monitor readiness.

Advise customer of recall campaign #K01

Guess I'll call a few smog places to confirm. I spoke to one who just said make sure they're all active but he seemed like he just wanted to get off the phone.

GRRRRR!

Phoned the smog ref department and was told by them that per VIN I need the recall performed or I won't pass due to F and CC not active.

Phoned Dealer and gave them my VIN and explained what the ref said and gave them the recall information.

Dealer says my truck is not a part of the recall and referred me to Dodge customer service for an explanation as to why.

EDIT: Dodge corporate is saying not recalled.

DOUBLE GRRRR!!!

I picked a bad day to stop sniffin' glue.

Called dealer per corporate, explained the following...

I have a 2006 Sales code ETH (Diesel) NAE (California emissions) it is subject to recall notice K01. I spoke to corporate and they said I need to bring it into the dealer for verification of sales codes.

Service Writer looks up truck and says it's not on your recall list.

I said I know, it's a glitch, I spoke to corporate, I am holding the service bulletin and it matches my vehicle exactly and I am experiencing the exact issue it addresses. Fuel and Comprehensive Components not active. This means I can't pass smog.

SW: Well we can't perform a recall that isn't listed for your VIN.

I said, that is why corporate said to bring it in to verify.

SW: I'll have to research this and call you back.

GRRRR!

Loved the first sentence. We need more movies like Airplane these days.
Hang in there. I didn't mention that at one smog check I had performed, vin indicated that my 5.9 regcab is now a 6.7 auto.
The technician transmit's the information to the DMV and you can now you can get it registered in theory.

Went to dealer per corporate request.

Dealer confirmed sales codes, same issue listed in recall.

Corporate says you're out of emissions warranty so we won't cover it.

I plead for 1/2hr for nothing. I explain how this is obviously a glitch regarding my VIN.

Nope, sorry.

I have owned the following Chrysler vehicles 1994 1500, 1996 1500, 2002 1500, 2006 2500, 2008 Patriot, 2008 Pacifica and you're willing to end our relationship for $185 emissions flash that is clearly a glitch, the state of California is telling me I'm recalled.

Sorry, we can't help you.

I hang up and ask the lead tech for advice.

Tech gives me a different number.

1hr on the phone going back and forth with sorry, can't help, etc. Tech is laughing sheepishly because he knows I'm right and agrees with my assessment.

Finally customer support puts on a supervisor, I detail everything again, he asks to speak to the tech, tech reiterates everything I've said and adds that he's encountered this before.

Supervisor (Unknown on speaker phone) starts reprimanding the customer rep about how it's obvious that my truck is a part of this campaign,

That provide an autho to the dealer to perform the flash as a one-time goodwill gesture.

I didn't even need to complete a drive-cycle, left dealer and drove 3 miles to grocery store, decided what the heck I'll plug in the reader. All monitors ready!

Now to find a smog place for less than $90.00.
